Governor Willie Obiano says the establishment of Anambra and Imo Interstate boundary is for government purposes and not to witch hunt anybody.
Governor Obiano stated this at the Joint Boundary Meeting between the two States, held at the Conference Hall of the Government House, Awka Reiterating the State government's interest in peace, Governor Obiano expressed the hope that the process of establishing the boundary of both States would be moved forward, as according to him, land issues should not create barriers but build bridges of development for sister states in the regions.
The Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, regretted that South East unfortunately lack unity , but expressed optimism that everlasting peace will be entrenched at the end of the entire process. On his part, the Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Mmadumere, noted that they have been itching for the settlement of the boundary differences between the two States, and expressed gratitude to the National Boundaries Commission for bringing the two States together, and called on the NBC to seriously examine all facts before making recommendations as a lot of anxiety exists as a result of the frictions in the areas. The Director-General, National Boundaries Commission, Dr. Mohammad Bosse Ahmed, represented by the Director of Internal Boundary, Adamu Adaji, said that the Anambra and Imo Interstate Boundary is very relevant to the Commission, even as he noted that apart from minor land disputes as well as claims and counter claims that erupt, a degree of peace exist in the affected areas.
The affected local government areas are Oguta, Ogbaru, Aguata and Ideato North Local government areas. Others are Ihiala, Oru West, Orumba South and Okigwe local government areas of both States. In attendance at the meeting were Surveyors-General of both States, Local Government Affairs Chairmen, as well as representatives of security outfits from both States. Presentation and signing of the Communiqué formed the highpoint of the event.
